Mission Statement

MISSION

  • To provide service in the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with psychiatric and/or emotional disorders.
  • To furnish treatment, consultations and diagnosis upon request of other services of psychiatric conditions of patients in the ward under their supervision; secure treatment from other services as required for patients under supervision and participate in staff conferences on such cases of special interest.
  • To train in clinical areas in a general hospital set up along the specialty of Psychiatry and Psychology for residents; Medical Interns and Students; Undergraduate and Postgraduate students in Nursing and the Behavioral Sciences.
  • To be an integral part of the community health services utilizing both hospital and community resources

PHILOSOPHY and ORIENTATION


  • To emphasize the dynamic point of view in the understanding and controlling or modifying abnormal human behavior.
  • To be more aware of the complete relationships between the patient and the physician and in turn with the nurses, psychiatric aides, social worker, occupational and recreational therapists, psychologists and dietitians (Team Approach).
  • Training should comprise the clinical and diagnostic methods in Psychiatry and Psychology -- Therapy-- Physical; Pharmacology; Psychological; experience in and instructions in teaching finally research, while a planned and structured program is essential, flexibility should not be lost free time for thinking and research should be provided for. An eclectic and historical approach to psychiatric training should be employed. By the end of training, the resident physician is able to practice psychiatry according to the expectations, in terms of knowledge, skill, attitude and proficiency. He is able to perform administrative functions and responsibilities and also able to conduct himself within the standards of professional ethics.
  • In order to provide adequate training to achieve these goals, the Department of Psychiatry that is an integral part of a general hospital and/or a medical school is best equipped to provide these opportunities.
